Revisiting Scars – A Powerful Message
Originally released as the closing track on NERVED’s debut album Off Line (2004), Scars addresses a difficult but crucial issue: the prevalence of male violence against women. With powerful lyrics and an intense musical backdrop, the song aims to shine a light on a problem that is all too common in society.
Founder and guitarist Marcus Hanser believes it’s a subject that demands ongoing attention:
“It’s a societal problem that cannot be highlighted enough.”
NERVED has never shied away from tackling tough topics in their music, and this latest release continues that tradition, delivering both a sonic and emotional punch.
I saw NERVED live a few years ago, and they were so good it pissed me off.
A Perfect Match: Zak Tell Joins NERVED
The collaboration with Zak Tell wasn’t a coincidence. Known for his charismatic and aggressive vocal style, Zak was an ideal fit for Scars. His contribution adds a new layer of intensity to the track, but his involvement goes beyond just his musical talents. Zak has long been a friend of NERVED’s guitarist Jocke Björkegren, which made the partnership feel natural.
Zak shared his enthusiasm about the project:
“This song fits me perfectly. I saw NERVED live a few years ago, and they were so good it pissed me off. So, it’s great to do this with them, especially on a topic that needs attention. I’ve often addressed social and political issues in my own lyrics.”
